The Target

I was given a template with seven targets: two on top, three in the middle, and two more on the bottom. The goal was to create imagery out of those targets.

My Process
When I think of a target, I think of hunting. It was near the opening day of deer season, and I was reflecting on everything that had to be done before the season even began—the preparation. The goal was to get a deer, but hunting is more than just getting the deer. Hunting is getting the deer, not just the kill itself. I wanted to let the viewer think about hunting and life, and how the journey to the goal is even more important than the goal. Reaching the goal is the reward for the journey. In Michigan, all the animals shown could be hunted, and I layered them to symbolize the smaller goal someone could make to get to the big goal: the deer.

Execution
I took images of each animal and edited them individually using Photoshop. I used a few layers and styles on each animal to allow for transparency and keep the colors accurate. I also edited the two different backgrounds to make them look like one and to allow the coyote to be behind the first background.
